Flying High

After returning home from my first trip to Spain in January 2025, I was excitedly sharing details of the journey with a friend who was not as enthusiastic about international travel as I am. "Why do you have to travel to find inspiration (to write)? Can't you find that at home?" he asked.

Well, sure I can. But why would I want to clip my wings?

Something I've come to realize is that travel is necessary for my soul. It doesn't just make me happy, it lights up my inner being like a bolt of electricity, shocking me back to life from the mundane daily routines we can sometimes find ourselves stuck in. It courses through my veins like an internal spring, welling up to the top forcing a smile and an audible cry for joy. The overwhelming gratitude I feel when I encounter new, or previously thought to be unobtainable, locations is palatable.

When I was a kid we would hike up some random mountain in rural west Texas, where I grew up, and watch the buzzards from the top of the summit. They would step off of a ledge and float on the breeze with the ease of a feather. They would soar to heights far above the mesas, following the patterns of the wind, not once flapping their wings. I was mesmerized by these creatures (and still am) wondering what it would be like to fly they way they did.

In a way, travel has given me the opportunity to experience life like those buzzards. No, I'm not stalking lifeless prey on the side of the road lol. I'm taking leaps of faith into the unknown, I'm spreading my wings and allowing the flow to dictate my next move, and I'm seeing the world from a completely new perspective.

Last week I spent 5 days in seclusion in far west Texas reconnecting to myself, communing with nature, and scheming what’s next. Ways to combine my two passions, travel and writing, has been at the forefront of my mind recently. Giving myself space to expand my awareness with no distractions resulted in the creation of the Hippie Witch Travel Diaries. I will document my journeys with video, interviews and a corresponding blog, focusing on the healing aspects of the region and the tales of the people who make it unique.

This is my first little introduction reel. As I put together the videos I’ll create and upload them to a new YouTube page. More to come...
